MCF Book Club: Reading for a Liberated Future
NationSwell is thrilled to partner with the Marguerite Casey Foundation to present the MCF Book Club series in New York City. Together, we will convene our communities to dive into thought-provoking books from dynamic authors from historically marginalized populations whose work centers radical, regenerative, and transformative approaches to community building.
King: A Life by Jonathan Eig
November 19, 2024 | 6:00 – 9:00 pm ET
The Altman Building, Chelsea, NYC
Join us on November 19th in New York City for a conversation among Jonathan Eig, Dr. Carmen Rojas, and Dr. Darrick Hamilton on the intricate dynamics of King’s leadership and legacy in today’s political context. Together, we will reflect on how King’s critique of racism, economic exploitation, and militarism continues to inform contemporary movements for freedom and explore how King’s understanding of justice can inspire a better vision for how we build economic and social policy today.

Previous Event: #SAYHERNAME
Be moved by a conversation between Professor Crenshaw, Dr. Carmen Rojas, President & CEO of Marguerite Casey Foundation, and Ms. Rhanda Dormeus and Valarie Carey of the #SAYHERNAME Mothers Network. Learn how we can incorporate an intersectional approach in our own work for justice — and how we can best lend our own voices in service of naming and ameliorating the violence that harms Black women and girls.
Previous Event: Invisible No More
The essays in Invisible No More feature stories from diverse Native nations. Hear from a few of the essayists who contributed their words and stories to the collection, as well as Dr. Carmen Rojas, President + CEO of Marguerite Casey Foundation, on how the lessons we learn from stories of Native community-building can help us redress historic inequities, create just societies, and cultivate a better world.
